Javi Alvarez
De la Villa Garcia

High Performance Coach

Javi has lived and breathed tennis since the age of five. Growing up in Madrid, Spain, he quickly rose through the junior ranks, competing among the top players in Madrid and Spain, and earning the opportunity to participate in two ITF Futures tournaments in his hometown.

Javi continued his career in the United States, where he competed in NCAA Division I tennis. Playing primarily in the top positions between #1 and #3, he recorded wins over strong programs including Ball State, Michigan State, and Belmont University. His experience at the highest collegiate level sharpened both his competitive edge and his understanding of the game.

Following his playing career, Javi turned his focus to coaching. In Coquitlam, he led developmental and competitive programs, helping players of all levels grow in skill and confidence. Later, as one of the coaches in Burnaby’s high-performance program, he worked with athletes who advanced to provincial-level competition. He also runs 4.0–5.0 adult classes, creating a space where passionate players continue to push their limits.
Today, Javi combines his international playing background with years of coaching experience to inspire the next generation of players. His philosophy emphasizes discipline, hard work, and creating a supportive, growth-focused environment. He also continues to play open tournaments himself, staying close to the sport he loves and keeping alive his competitive spirit.
