DIMITRI
PENCHEV MSc, PhD

Co-founder I Director of Tennis

Dimitri Penchev brings over 35 years of diverse international experience to the tennis industry. As Co-Owner and Director of Tennis at Vanguard Tennis Academy, he is a dedicated and passionate coach whose career spans three continents.

Dimitri’s tennis journey began at the age of seven and progressed through the ranks as a promising junior player. He competed actively until completing his university studies.

Academically accomplished, Dimitri holds a Master’s degree in Sports Coaching and Physical Education, as well as a PhD in Sport Psychology. He is also a certified NCCP Coach 3.

His global career includes a wide range of coaching and leadership roles, such as High Performance Coach, High Performance Director, Provincial Head Coach, Program Manager, Academy Co-Owner, and Technical Director of a National Training Centre. One of the highlights of his professional journey was his involvement in the successful organization of the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games.

Throughout his career, Dimitri has coached and developed numerous national champions and ITF junior players. His contributions to tennis in Canada have been recognized with several prestigious honors, including:

  • Tennis BC High Performance Coach of the Year

  • Tennis Canada Coach of the Year

  • Tennis Canada Coaching Excellence Award

   
Internationally respected for his expertise in building tennis academies and training centers from the ground up, Dimitri is known for creating successful player development environments.

He is also multilingual, fluent in English, Greek, Bulgarian, and Russian.
